The travel agent reads your certifications and your logbook, including your dive notes, to plan trips. Nothing is sent until you send a question; then your question, the recent part of that conversation and a summary of your logbook go from SCUBAzen’s server to Google Gemini. Your name, email address, photos, insurance and gear are never sent.

When anything is sent

Before your first question, a notice above the message box says the agent reads your logbook and sends it to Google Gemini with each question. You can’t send anything until you tap continue. After that, data goes out only when you send a question or tap retry. Opening the travel agent, scrolling a conversation or reading old answers sends nothing. Your phone never talks to Gemini directly: questions go to SCUBAzen’s server (Google Cloud Functions), which calls Google’s Gemini API.

What goes to Google Gemini with each question

Instructions. A fixed set of instructions from SCUBAzen on how to plan dive trips. They contain nothing about you. Your question. What you typed, up to 4,000 characters. The conversation so far. The most recent 20 messages of this conversation, yours and the agent’s, each cut to 2,000 characters. Other conversations are never sent. A summary of your logbook, built fresh for each question:
  • the name and issuing agency of each certification (not certification numbers, dates or card photos)
  • how many dives you’ve logged, and the dates they span
  • your deepest dive: its depth, place and date
  • how you dive, as counts: boat, shore, fresh water, night, and each dive type (reef, wreck, drift, wall and so on)
  • up to 15 of your highest-rated and 15 of your lowest-rated dives: place, star rating and date
  • every place you’ve dived: number of dives, the months you dived there, the deepest depth, your average star rating, and how many of those dives have notes
  • every shop and boat in your logbook, with the number of dives with each
Individual dives, when the agent looks them up. For some questions the agent asks for specific dives, by place, shop, date, depth, dive type, rating or whether they have notes. It can make a limited number of lookups per question, each returning up to 50 dives. For each dive it gets:
  • dive number, date, site and location
  • maximum depth and dive time
  • water and air temperature, visibility, current and altitude
  • boat or shore, salt or fresh, day or night
  • the shop or boat
  • dive types
  • wetsuit thickness, gas (nitrox or trimix mix) and whether it was a decompression dive
  • your star rating
  • your notes for that dive, word for word, up to 2,000 characters
Your dive notes are sent exactly as you wrote them when the agent looks a dive up. Leave out anything in a note you wouldn’t want sent.

Never sent to Gemini

  • your name, email address or account ID
  • photos and videos
  • insurance details
  • your kit, gear list, servicing records, body measurements or weighting
  • GPS coordinates of dive sites (only the site and location names you typed)
  • certification numbers and card images
  • anything from your other conversations

What Google does with it

SCUBAzen uses Google’s paid Gemini API. Under Google’s terms for paid use, Google doesn’t use prompts or answers to improve its products or train its models. It keeps them for 55 days, only to detect and prevent misuse, then deletes them. Google’s own terms are the authority: see the Gemini API terms and data logging policy.

What SCUBAzen keeps

Payment is handled by Apple or Google, through RevenueCat. SCUBAzen never sees your card details.

Delete it

One conversation. Open it, tap the options button (three dots), then delete conversation. The conversation and every message in it are removed, and the server removes anything the delete missed. See Manage conversations. Everything. Deleting your account removes every conversation and message, and your free day and trip pass record. The email hash and the unlinked purchase IDs in the table above are kept. Any copy Google holds for misuse checks expires on Google’s schedule.
Deleting your account can’t be undone, and any unused trip pass days are lost with it.
