SCUBAzen features
Summary
SCUBAzen v2 is a scuba dive log app for iOS and Android that also keeps certifications and insurance, gear and its service history, wetsuit and weight estimates, trip readiness checks, dive shop paperwork and a packing list. Every SCUBAzen feature is free except the travel agent, an AI travel planner with one free day per email address, then 30 days at a time as a one-time purchase that does not renew. Step-by-step guides for each feature are in the SCUBAzen help docs at https://scubazenapp.com/docs.
Logbook
The SCUBAzen logbook records each dive's site, depth, bottom time, water temperature, gas, conditions, equipment and notes. Two fields record how the diver's weighting felt (very heavy through zen to very light) and how warm they were (very cold through zen to very warm), and Zenfinder reads both. A diver can log a day's dives in one sitting: when the previous dive is under 48 hours old, SCUBAzen carries over the dive shop, place, tank, wetsuit, weight belt, water type and entry, so the diver enters the site, depth and time. The logbook is searchable. A dive saved without signal stays on the phone and syncs when the phone reconnects. Guide: log a dive.
Dive photos
Each SCUBAzen dive has its own photos page. A diver adds photos from the phone's library, reorders them, views them full screen and removes them, and each photo stays attached to the dive it was taken on. Guide: dive photos.
Import and backup
SCUBAzen imports dives from a CSV, TXT or TSV file exported by another dive app or dive computer program; the import page names Subsurface, MacDive, Shearwater Cloud and Diving Log as examples. The column names do not have to match SCUBAzen's. The diver reviews where each column goes and every dive found before tapping to bring them in, and can undo the whole import afterwards. SCUBAzen can also back up the logbook to CSV files at any time. Guides: import, backup.
Zenfinder: wetsuit and weight calculator
Zenfinder is the SCUBAzen wetsuit and dive weight calculator, with three tabs. The wetsuit tab gives a suit from a seven-band ladder by water temperature, shifted when the diver runs cold or warm, and in v2 also moves the answer using the warmth the diver logged on past dives in similar water. The weight tab works out a starting amount of lead from the diver's body weight, height, age, sex and body fat (known or estimated), exposure suit pieces, tank, fins, and salt or fresh water; the weight tab does not read dive history. The logbook tab shows what the diver wore and carried on past dives in similar water and how it felt. Every result is an estimate to confirm with a buoyancy check. Travel agent
The SCUBAzen travel agent is an AI travel planner that reads the diver's certifications and logbook and helps choose where to dive next. A diver can ask about seasons, animals, flight times or budget, and keep conversations to return to. Answers come from Google Gemini, and before the first question the app shows what it sends; details are at travel agent privacy.
The travel agent is the only paid SCUBAzen feature. Every email address gets one free day of unlimited questions, lasting 24 hours from the first question sent. After that, 30 days with the travel agent can be bought at the price shown in the app. The purchase goes through the App Store or Google Play, is a one-time purchase that never renews automatically, and is refunded through Apple or Google. Guide: travel agent.
Trips and paperwork
A SCUBAzen trip is a destination with departure and return dates. Once a trip is on file, the SCUBAzen home screen checks four things a dive shop can turn a diver away for: dive insurance that runs out before the return date, no certification on file, any of nine essentials (BCD, regulator, octopus, tank, weight belt, pressure gauge, computer, mask, fins) not marked as owned or rented, and rented gear with no size. Each open item links to the page that fixes it. Home also flags gear due for service, a refresher reminder when the last dive will be over a year old on departure, and the typical sea temperature for 46 dive destinations with what the diver wore before in water that warm. Guide: trip readiness.
The SCUBAzen paperwork page writes the diver's kit (owned or rented), rental sizes, certifications and insurance into one English A4 PDF and sends it through the phone's share sheet. The paperwork page warns about gaps but never blocks sending, and the PDF never includes photos of certification cards. Guide: paperwork.
Packing list
The SCUBAzen packing list is built from the diver's kit: each item is marked once as owned or rented, owned gear appears under equipment to pack, rented gear under equipment to rent, and the diver can add custom items. Ticks stay until cleared, and the list resets for the next trip. The packing list is not generated from trip details such as dive count or water temperature. Guide: packing list.
Certifications and insurance
SCUBAzen stores each certification card with its name, agency, card number, issue date and photos of the front and back, and each dive insurance policy with its insurer, plan and expiry date, on one page. Certifications never expire in the app. Home warns when a policy expires within 60 days, or before a trip ends. Guide: certifications and insurance.
Gear and servicing
SCUBAzen keeps each piece of a diver's own gear, such as a regulator, BCD or dive computer, with its service history and next service date. Home shows gear that is due for service soon or overdue, so servicing happens before a trip. Guide: gear list.
