SCUBAzen privacy policy

Summary

The SCUBAzen privacy policy is effective April 29, 2025 and governs both scubazenapp.com and the SCUBAzen mobile application, described as a pre-dive logistics and logbook scuba diving app. SCUBAzen may collect email address, display name, location data with permission, dive log information and preferences, and app usage analytics. Third-party processors include Firebase, Amplitude, AppsFlyer, Adjust, Google Analytics, Customer.io, RevenueCat, and OpenAI. Users have a right to deletion on a verifiable request, subject to exceptions set out in the policy. This page summarizes the policy; the full legal text is on the SCUBAzen website.

Information collected

SCUBAzen may collect personally identifiable information including email address, display name, location data (with the user's permission), dive log information and preferences, and app usage data and analytics. The policy states that SCUBAzen does not collect personal information unless the user voluntarily provides it, though certain information may be required to use particular features, such as registering for an account or sending an email message. Collected information is used to operate and deliver requested services, provide account notices, and improve the product.

Third-party services

The SCUBAzen privacy policy names the third-party services that process user data. Firebase provides backend services and authentication. Amplitude, AppsFlyer, Adjust, and Google Analytics provide analytics. Customer.io provides messaging. RevenueCat processes subscription payments. OpenAI powers the AI travel planner feature. These services may collect information sent by the user's device, including device identifiers, location data, and app usage data, and that information is governed by each provider's own privacy policy. This list reflects the policy as published; the full policy at https://scubazenapp.com/privacy is authoritative.

SCUBAzen states that it does not sell, rent, or lease customer lists to third parties. SCUBAzen may share data with trusted partners to perform statistical analysis, process payments, send email, provide customer support, or arrange deliveries. Those partners are prohibited from using the information for anything other than providing those services and are required to maintain confidentiality. SCUBAzen may disclose personal information without notice where required by law, to protect its rights or property, or to protect the personal safety of users or the public.

Google Analytics is used on the website only

Google Analytics runs on the SCUBAzen website and is not used inside the SCUBAzen mobile app. On the website it records pages visited, approximate location derived from the visitor's IP address, and general device and browser information. SCUBAzen states that it uses this data only to understand site traffic in aggregate, does not use it to identify individual visitors, and does not combine it with dive log data or user accounts. Visitors can opt out across all sites using Google's browser opt-out add-on.

Location data

SCUBAzen collects and processes location data only with the user's permission, and uses it to provide requested functionality such as logging dive locations. The SCUBAzen privacy policy states that location data is not shared with third parties for marketing purposes. A user can disable location services for the app at any time through device settings, though some features may not function properly without location access.

AI features and data storage

SCUBAzen uses artificial intelligence services, including OpenAI, to power certain features such as the AI travel planner. The SCUBAzen privacy policy states three consequences of using those features. Conversations and queries may be stored with the AI service providers to maintain context and improve responses. Those conversations may be used to train and improve the AI systems, with safeguards for privacy. Information shared with AI providers is subject to those providers' own privacy policies and data security practices.

User IDs and analytics tracking

SCUBAzen generates unique user IDs through its Firebase backend for authentication and for analysing user behaviour within the app. These user IDs may be shared with SCUBAzen's analytics providers. The privacy policy states that the resulting analytics data is used only to improve the app and the user experience.

Data export and the right to deletion

Users can export dive log data and other personal information from within the SCUBAzen app. A complete export of all data can be requested by email at info@scubazenapp.com.

On receipt of a verifiable request, SCUBAzen will delete personal information from its records and direct its service providers to do the same. Deletion requests are submitted through the data deletion form linked from the SCUBAzen support page, or by emailing info@scubazenapp.com. The policy lists exceptions under which SCUBAzen may be unable to comply, including completing a transaction for which the information was collected, detecting security incidents or fraudulent activity, debugging to repair errors, complying with the California Electronic Communications Privacy Act, and complying with an existing legal obligation.

Children under thirteen

SCUBAzen states that it does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. Users under 13 must ask a parent or guardian for permission to use the application. Separate age and certification requirements for using the app appear in the SCUBAzen terms and conditions at https://scubazenapp.com/terms.

Legal entity and policy changes

The legal entity named in the SCUBAzen privacy policy is SCUBAzen LLC dba FireBrands. SCUBAzen data may be stored on servers provided by third-party hosting vendors, including cloud service providers, analytics platforms, and AI service providers. SCUBAzen reserves the right to change the policy, and states that it will inform users when changes are significant, by email to the account address, by a notice in the app, or by updating the published privacy information.
