# Plan a trip with the travel agent

> Ask the AI travel agent to plan a dive trip around your certifications and logbook, and what to do when an answer doesn't arrive.

The travel agent is an AI planner that answers questions about dive trips using your certifications and your logbook. Open it from the menu, tap **ask the agent**, type your question and tap **send**. Your first 24 hours are free; after that it needs a [trip pass](/docs/travel-agent/trip-pass).

## Open the travel agent

You can reach it two ways:

* Open the menu and tap **travel agent**, in the **planning** section.
* On home, when you have no trip coming up, tap **plan a trip with the travel agent**.

The page opens with **where to next?** and a short line about what the agent plans from. Your earlier conversations are listed under **conversations**, newest first.

## What the agent plans from

Every answer is planned around your certifications and your logbook. With each question, the agent gets a summary of your logbook: your certifications, how many dives you've logged, your deepest dive, the kinds of diving you do, every place you've dived and every shop or boat you've dived with. When a question needs more detail, it looks up individual dives, including their conditions, your star ratings and your notes.

The line on the front page sums this up: where you've dived, how deep, and with which shop or boat. The logbook has no buddy field, so the agent never knows who you dived with.

It never sees your name, email address, photos, insurance, gear list or body measurements. The full list is on [What the travel agent sees](/docs/travel-agent/privacy).

The agent replies in the language you write in.

## Ask a question

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a conversation">
    Tap **ask the agent**. A new conversation opens, titled **new conversation**, with a short greeting.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the notice the first time">
    The first time you use the agent, a notice above the message box says what it reads: your certifications and your logbook's places, dates, depths, conditions, dive types, suit and gas, shops and boats, ratings and notes. It goes to Google Gemini with your questions (see [What the travel agent sees](/docs/travel-agent/privacy)). Tap **what's sent, in detail** to read more, then tap **continue**. You can't send a question until you do.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Type your question">
    Type in the box marked **plan your next dive trip…**. Say as much or as little as you like: where you're thinking of going, when, your budget, what you want to see. The return key starts a new line; it doesn't send.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap send">
    Tap **send**. The first time, the app asks **start your free day?** before anything is sent. See [Your free day](/docs/travel-agent/free-day).
  </Step>
</Steps>

The conversation is created when your first question sends, and it takes its title from the first line of that question. You can [rename it](/docs/travel-agent/conversations) later.

## While the agent answers

Under your question you'll see **writing a reply**, or **reading your logbook** while the agent looks up individual dives. An answer that needs several lookups can take a minute or more.

You can leave the conversation page and use the rest of the app while it works, as the note under **writing a reply** says. When you come back, the answer is in the conversation, and the conversation list shows **writing a reply** on that row until it lands.

<Note>
  Keep the app open while an answer is on its way. The app saves the answer when it arrives, so if you close the app before then, the answer is lost and your question shows **no answer came back**. Tap **retry** to ask again.
</Note>

## When an answer doesn't arrive

| What you see | What happened | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| **no answer came back** under your question, with **retry** | The agent couldn't answer: there was no connection, the app closed, or the agent hit an error. Your question is kept in the conversation. | Tap **retry** once you have a connection. |
| A note above the box saying the app couldn't reach the agent, with your question back in the box | Your question couldn't be saved, so it never reached the agent. | Tap **send** again. If it keeps happening, see [Troubleshooting](/docs/help/troubleshooting). |
| **that's a lot of questions at once. give it a minute, then ask again.** | You sent more than 5 questions within a minute. | Wait a minute, then tap **retry** under the question. |
| **this conversation didn't load.** or **your conversations didn't load.** | The conversation or the list couldn't be read. | Tap **retry**. |

The travel agent needs a connection for every question.
