# Units and sizes

> Choose metric or imperial for each measurement, set your dive count, and save the sizes printed on your paperwork.

**Units & sizes** sets which units new dives start in, the number your next dive counts up from, and the sizes a dive shop needs for rental gear. Open it from settings, under **diving**. There's no save button: every change saves as you make it and syncs to your account.

## Units

There are seven unit rows. Tap a side of each row to choose.

| Row | Imperial | Metric |
| - | - | - |
| **depth** | ft | m |
| **altitude** | ft | m |
| **visibility** | ft | m |
| **temperature** | F | C |
| **weight** | lb | kg |
| **pressure** | psi | bar |
| **volume** | ft³ | L |

To change all seven at once, tap **all imperial** or **all metric** below the rows. You can also mix them, for example metres with psi. The chip beside the **units** heading shows **imperial**, **metric** or **mixed**.

### What your units change

New dives start in these units. A dive that carries over from one you logged in the last 48 hours can take that dive's units instead. See [Log a dive](/docs/logbook/log-a-dive).

Dives you've already saved keep the units they were logged in. Changing a setting here doesn't convert or relabel them. The note under the units rows says the same.

Zenfinder has its own units toggle. See [Zenfinder](/docs/zenfinder/index).

## Dive count

The **dive count** section has one field, **total logged dives**. It's the number your next logged dive counts up from: enter 120 and your next dive is number 121. Set it if you're bringing a paper logbook or another app's count with you.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Type your total">
    Tap **total logged dives** and type the number of dives you've done so far.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Leave the field">
    Tap anywhere else on the page, or tap done on the keyboard. That's when the count saves. If it changes your numbering, a message tells you the number your next dive will get.
  </Step>
</Steps>

* The highest count the app accepts is 200,000. A bigger number is refused, and the field goes back to your previous count.
* Lowering the count doesn't renumber dives you've already logged. If your logbook already has dives numbered above the count you type, they keep their numbers and your next dive still follows the highest one.
* An empty field isn't saved. Clearing it to retype changes nothing.
* If the count can't be saved, you'll see a message saying so, the field goes back to your previous count, and your next dive's number doesn't change. Retype it with a connection.

## Sizes

Your sizes are printed on your [paperwork](/docs/trips/paperwork) so a dive shop can have rental gear ready before you arrive. If the paperwork is missing a size, it sends you here to add it.

The **sizes** section has six rows: **bcd**, **wetsuit**, **drysuit**, **hood**, **gloves** and **fins**. A row with no size says **not set**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Tap a row">
    For bcd, wetsuit, drysuit, hood and gloves, a list opens with XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a size, or type one">
    Tap a size to save it. If yours isn't on the list (for example 3XL or 5mm L), tap **other…**, type it, and tap **save**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

To remove a size, tap the row, tap **other…**, clear the field and tap **save**.

### Fins

Fin sizes are numbers, so the **fins** row opens a text field straight away with a number keypad. Type your size and tap **save**.

Then set **fin sizing** to **US**, **EU** or **UK**, so the shop knows which scale your number is on. The fins row and your paperwork show the size with its scale.

## Where your settings are kept

Units, sizes and your dive count are saved to your account. Sign in on another phone and they come with you. When you sign out, they're cleared from this phone and come back when you sign in again. See [Sign out](/docs/settings/sign-out).
