# Sign out

> What signing out of SCUBAzen does to the data on your phone, and what's kept for when you sign back in.

Signing out ends your session on this phone and clears this phone's copy of your logbook and settings. Nothing is deleted from your account: sign in again with the same email and everything comes back. The one exception to the clearing is changes that haven't reached your account yet; those stay on the phone until you sign back in.

## Sign out

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open settings">
    Tap the settings icon on home, or **settings** in the menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap sign out">
    It's below the **app** section. The **account** page has the same button.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Tap **sign out** in the dialog. You're taken to the sign-in page.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The dialog says the same: your logbook and settings stay in your account, and this phone clears its copy, except changes not yet sent.

## What happens on this phone

| | After you sign out |
| - | - |
| Your logbook, certifications, gear and other records | This phone's offline copy is deleted. They're still in your account and load again when you sign in. |
| Changes not yet sent to your account | Kept on this phone (see below). |
| Your settings: kit, units, sizes, dive count, Zenfinder details, packing list | Cleared from this phone. They're saved to your account and come back when you sign in. |
| A dive you started but didn't save | Kept on this phone for you. It's there when you sign back in, and no one else signing in can open it. |
| Backup files and paperwork PDFs the app made, and copies of photos you picked | Deleted from this phone. Files you already sent somewhere (email, Files, Drive) aren't affected. |
| **background images** | Unchanged. It's a setting for the phone, not your account. |

Your trip pass and free day belong to your account, not the phone, so signing out doesn't use them up or remove them.

## If you sign out without a connection

Before signing out, SCUBAzen tries for a few seconds to send any changes that haven't reached your account yet, for example dives you logged offline. If they can't be sent, they aren't thrown away: this phone keeps them, and they're sent the next time you sign in on this phone with the same email.

While changes are waiting like this, the phone also keeps its offline copy of your records rather than clearing it.

<Warning>
  Unsent changes exist only on this phone until you sign back in on it. If you delete the app or reset the phone first, they're lost. Sign back in on the same phone, with a connection, to send them.
</Warning>

## Signing back in

Signing in needs a connection, because SCUBAzen emails you a link or a code. See [Sign in](/docs/get-started/sign-in).
