# Delete your account

> What deleting your SCUBAzen account removes, what you can save first and how, what can't be saved, and what's kept.

Deleting your account permanently removes your logbook, photos, certifications, insurance, gear, travel conversations, settings and any unused trip pass days. It can't be undone. Before you delete, you can save your logbook as three CSV files and your certifications and insurance as a paperwork PDF, but much of your account can't be saved anywhere (see the list below).

<Warning>
  Deleting your account can't be undone. Back up first: anything not in your backup or your paperwork PDF is gone for good, including unused trip pass days.
</Warning>

## Delete your account

You need a connection, and you need to have signed in recently (see [If deletion is refused](#if-deletion-is-refused)).

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the delete account page">
    Open settings (the settings icon on home, or **settings** in the menu) and tap **delete account** at the bottom.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Back up first">
    Under **back up first**, tap **back up everything** and send the three files somewhere off this phone. To keep a summary of your certifications and insurance, tap **paperwork** too. See [Save what you can first](#save-what-you-can-first).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap delete account">
    The **delete account** button is at the bottom of the page, below the backup.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    In the "delete your account?" dialog, tap **delete everything**. When it's done, you're taken to the sign-in page.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The notice at the top of that page says what's deleted, what the two rows below it save, and what's kept after deletion. The confirm dialog repeats what's deleted.

If the deletion fails, you'll see a message saying the account couldn't be deleted and nothing was removed. Your account is untouched, and you can try again.

## What is deleted

All of this is removed from your account, permanently:

| What | Includes |
| - | - |
| Your logbook | Every dive, the gear used on each dive, dive types, your dive numbering, and dive photos |
| Your trips | Each trip's destination, dates and note |
| Certifications and insurance | Every card and policy, including card photos |
| Your gear list | Every piece of gear, its photos and details, and its service history |
| Travel agent conversations | Every conversation and message |
| Trip pass and free day | Your pass time, including unused days, and your free day's status |
| Your profile | Name, location and profile photo |
| Your settings | Kit (own or rent), units, sizes, dive count, Zenfinder details and packing list |
| Your uploaded files | Every photo and file you added, wherever it was used |
| Your sign-in | The account itself. Your email address can sign up again, but it starts a new, empty account |

It's also cleared from this phone: the offline copy of your records, your settings, any dive you started but didn't save, and files the app made (backups and paperwork PDFs still in SCUBAzen's own storage).

## Save what you can first

### Logbook backup: three CSV files

Tap **back up everything** on the delete account page (or in settings under **backup & restore**). You get three files:

* your logbook (every dive)
* the gear used on each dive
* your dive types

It needs a connection, because the files are built from your account, not from the phone. Choose a place outside SCUBAzen in the share sheet (email, Files, Google Drive). Files left inside the app are deleted along with the account.

Only the logbook file can be imported back into SCUBAzen. The other two are for your own records. See [Back up your logbook](/docs/logbook/backup).

### Paperwork PDF: certifications and insurance summary

The [paperwork](/docs/trips/paperwork) PDF (**paperwork** on the delete account page or in the menu) is the only way to keep anything from your certifications and insurance. It's a summary for a dive shop, in English, and it isn't a backup:

* For each certification: name, agency, number and issue date.
* For each insurance policy: insurer, policy number and expiry date.
* Also your name, email, kit and sizes.

It leaves out card photos (front and back), instructor, dive shop, insurance plan and the insurer's phone number. Nothing can read it back into the app.

## What can't be saved anywhere

These have no export. Once the account is deleted, they're gone:

* **Photos**: dive photos, certification and insurance card photos, gear photos and your profile photo. Photos you picked from your phone's library are still in your library; SCUBAzen's copies are deleted. Photos you took with the camera inside SCUBAzen exist only in the app.
* **Your gear list and service history**: every piece of gear, its service dates, reminders and notes. (Gear ticked on each dive is in the backup; your gear list isn't.)
* **Travel agent conversations.**
* **Your settings**: kit, units, sizes, dive count, Zenfinder details and packing list. The paperwork PDF prints your kit and sizes, but only as a document to read.
* **Unused trip pass days.** Deleting your account doesn't pause or refund a pass. The days are lost, and a new account can't restore that purchase. See [Trip pass](/docs/travel-agent/trip-pass).

## What is kept after deletion

A few records outlive the account.

* **Feedback you sent.** The text of each report is kept, with the app details sent with it (app version, phone type, system version, language and the screen you were on). Your user ID, email address and any screenshot are removed from it. Reports are normally also emailed to the SCUBAzen team when you send them, with your address to reply to and any screenshot attached; deleting your account doesn't recall those emails. The delete account page says so too.
* **Trip pass purchase records.** Each purchase stays on record, no longer linked to your account, so the same purchase can't be granted to a new account. Apple or Google also keeps its own record of what you bought.
* **Your free-day marker.** A scrambled form of your email address is kept with a note that its free day was used. A new account with the same address, or a "+" variant of it, doesn't get another free day. See [Your free day](/docs/travel-agent/free-day).
* **Usage analytics and crash reports.** Usage events and crash and error reports the app and server recorded (for example, when you asked the travel agent a question and what answering it cost, or a save that failed) are kept, so problems can still be found and fixed. They're tied only to a random account ID, which points to no one once your account is gone. They never hold your name, your email address, the text of your questions or answers, or your logbook. The network address recorded with usage events is shortened to the area level. See [What the travel agent sees](/docs/travel-agent/privacy).

## If deletion is refused

For safety, the account can only be deleted if you signed in recently. If you didn't, you'll see a message asking you to sign out and back in. Nothing is removed.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign out">
    In settings, tap **sign out**. Do this with a connection, so any changes still waiting on your phone are sent first. See [Sign out](/docs/settings/sign-out).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign back in">
    Sign in with the same email address. See [Sign in](/docs/get-started/sign-in).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Delete again">
    Go back to settings, tap **delete account**, and confirm.
  </Step>
</Steps>
