# Dive photos

> Add photos from your library to a dive, reorder them, view them full screen, and remove them.

Each dive has its own **photos** page. Open a dive, tap **photos**, then add photos from your phone's library. They save as soon as they upload, and you can reorder, view and remove them on the same page.

## Open a dive's photos

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the dive">
    In your logbook, tap the dive. See [View, edit or delete a dive](/docs/logbook/edit-dive).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap photos">
    In the **equipment** section of the dive, tap **photos**. The page shows the dive number at the top and the dive's photos in a grid.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Add photos

<Steps>
  <Step title="Tap add photos">
    On a dive with no photos yet, tap **add photos**. On a dive that already has photos, tap the **+** tile at the end of the grid.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose photos">
    Your phone's photo library opens. Pick one or more photos and confirm.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for the upload">
    Each photo appears in the grid straight away, dimmed with a spinner while it uploads. When the spinner goes, the photo is saved to the dive.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Things to know:

* **Library only.** Photos come from your phone's photo library. You can't take a photo from this page, and videos aren't supported.
* **Photos are resized.** Each photo is scaled down to fit within 1920 by 1080 pixels before it uploads. The original in your library is not changed.
* **No save button.** Adding, reordering and removing each save immediately.
* **You need a connection to add photos.** Uploads go straight to SCUBAzen's servers and can't wait offline. If some photos fail, the app tells you they didn't upload. Add those photos again when you have a better connection.

## Reorder photos

Press and hold a photo until it lifts, drag it onto the photo whose place you want it to take, and let go. The new order saves when you drop it.

## View photos full screen

Tap a photo to open it full screen on a black background.

* Swipe left or right to move between the dive's photos. When the dive has more than one photo, the top right shows your position, for example **3 / 12**.
* Pinch to zoom in.
* To close, tap the **X** at the top left, or pinch the photo well below its full-screen size.

## Remove photos

<Steps>
  <Step title="Tap select">
    At the top right of the photos page, tap **select**. The title changes to show how many photos are selected.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Mark the photos">
    Tap each photo you want to remove. Selected photos dim and show a check mark.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap the trash icon">
    Tap the trash icon (**remove**) at the top right.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    The dialog asks **remove this photo?** (or how many photos) and explains that they come off this dive's log while the photos on your phone aren't touched. Tap **remove**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

To stop selecting without removing anything, tap the **X** at the top left or use your phone's back gesture.

<Warning>
  Removing a photo deletes SCUBAzen's copy of it, and there is no undo. The photo in your phone's library is not touched, so you can add it again from there.
</Warning>

## Photos aren't in backups or exports

Your photos are stored with your account, not in any file the app makes:

* A [logbook backup](/docs/logbook/backup) contains no photos.
* Deleting your account deletes every dive photo, and no export can save them. Keep your originals in your phone's library. See [Delete your account](/docs/settings/delete-account).

## If photos don't load

If the page says it couldn't load this dive's photos, check your connection and tap **retry**. You can't add photos until the dive's existing photos have loaded.
