# Help and feedback

> Send an idea or report a problem from inside SCUBAzen, attach a screenshot, rate the app, and bring back tips you've dismissed.

To reach the people who make SCUBAzen, open **settings**, then **help & feedback**, and tap **send feedback**. Choose **an idea** or **a problem**, write a few words and tap **send**. We reply by email to the address you sign in with, and a report written without signal waits on your phone and sends when you're back online.

## Open help and feedback

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open settings">
    Open the menu on home and tap **settings**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open help & feedback">
    Under **app**, tap **help & feedback**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The page has two sections.

| Section | Row | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| **get help** | **help docs** | Opens these help pages in your browser |
| **get help** | **show tips again** | Brings back every in-app tip you've dismissed or used |
| **get help** | **send feedback** | Opens the feedback form |
| **get help** | **rate SCUBAzen** | Opens SCUBAzen's page in the App Store or Google Play |
| **documents** | **privacy policy** | Opens the privacy policy in your browser |
| **documents** | **terms & conditions** | Opens the terms in your browser |

The **help docs** row and the two document rows are marked **browser** because they leave the app and need a connection.

## Send an idea or report a problem

<Steps>
  <Step title="Tap send feedback">
    The form opens with the title **tell us**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose what it is">
    Tap **an idea** (the default) or **a problem**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write it">
    For an idea, the box is labeled **your idea**. For a problem it's **what happened**: say what you were doing when it went wrong. You can write up to 4,000 characters.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a screenshot (problems only)">
    Tap **add a screenshot** and pick a picture from your photo library. To take it off again, tap **remove screenshot**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send">
    Tap **send**. The button stays off until you've written something.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Above the buttons, the form tells you which email address the reply will go to. Your app version and your phone's system version go with every report, so you don't need to type them.

### About screenshots

* Screenshots attach only to **a problem**. If you switch back to **an idea**, the picture isn't sent.
* The app shrinks the picture before sending and removes its hidden photo data, including any location a camera stored in it.
* If the picture can't be made small enough, you'll see "that picture is too large to send". Try a plain screenshot instead of a camera photo.
* If you see "couldn't add that picture", the app couldn't read it or wasn't allowed into your photo library. You can still send the report without it.

## Report a problem from an error message

When something fails, the red notice at the bottom of the screen has a **tell us** button. Tapping it opens the same form, already set to **a problem**, with the notice's words shown under **what went wrong**. Add what you were doing and tap **send**.

## Sending without a connection

After you tap **send**, the app waits a few seconds for our server.

* If it gets through, the app waits a few seconds more for the server to email it to the team. Once the email has gone, you'll see a notice saying it was sent and that we'll reply by email. If a daily email limit kept your report from being emailed, you'll see "sent, thank you. today's email limit was reached, so we can't reply to this one by email." Your report is still saved. If the app can't tell yet, you'll see "sent, thank you."
* If there's no answer, you'll see "saved on your phone", meaning the report will send by itself when you're back online. You don't need to send it again.
* If the report is refused outright, you'll see "couldn't send that" and your words stay in the box so you can try again.

## Rate SCUBAzen

Tap **rate SCUBAzen** to open SCUBAzen's page in the App Store or Google Play, where you can leave a rating or review at any time.

Separately, the app may occasionally show your phone's own rating card after you save a dive from a trip you're on or just back from. It only does this once you have at least three dives logged, never after something has gone wrong in the same visit, never within 30 days of sending feedback, and no more than three times in total, at least six months apart.

## Show tips again

SCUBAzen shows short tips the first time you meet something that isn't obvious, and each one goes away once you've done the thing it describes or closed it. Tap **show tips again** to bring them all back, for example if you're lending your phone to a friend. You'll see "tips will show again."

The travel agent's first-use note about what it reads is one of these tips, so it shows again too.

## What happens to your reports

A report is kept as a record and emailed to the SCUBAzen team, with your email address as the reply-to so the answer comes straight to you. If you later delete your account, the stored report's text is kept, but your account, email address and screenshot are removed from it. The email the team already received, with your address and any screenshot, isn't recalled. The delete account page says so before you confirm. See [Delete your account](/docs/settings/delete-account#what-is-kept-after-deletion).
