# Home and the menu

> What home shows before, during and after a trip, and where everything lives in the menu.

Home is a checklist for your next trip. With no trip, it offers to add one and shows anything that needs attention anyway. With a trip ahead, it checks what a dive shop will ask for. For a week after you get back, it asks you to log the trip's dives. Everything else in the app is in the menu, behind the button at the top left.

## The top bar

* The menu button (three lines, top left) opens the menu. See [The menu](#the-menu) below.
* The settings button (gear icon, top right) opens [Settings](/docs/settings/index).

## Before a trip: no trip planned

When you have no trip on file, home reads **no trip planned**, with **plan a trip with the travel agent** under it. At the foot are **add a trip** and **log a dive**. Adding a trip is covered in [Add a trip](/docs/trips/add-trip).

Under the heading, home shows facts from your logbook: how many dives you've logged and how many days since your last dive. Facts it can't work out are left off.

**start here** appears on a brand-new account, with no dives and no trips. Its three rows are **add your next trip**, **log a past dive** and **everything else is in the menu**. Each one does what it says on tap. The group goes away once you have a trip or a dive on file.

**meanwhile** lists things that matter whether or not you're travelling:

* Gear that is due for service soon or overdue (from your [gear list](/docs/gear/gear-list)).
* Insurance that has expired or expires within 60 days. Home goes by the policy that runs latest, so an old policy kept after a renewal doesn't show. See [Your certifications and insurance](/docs/certs/wallet).
* A long time since your last dive, when many shops start asking for a refresher. Tap **dismiss** to hide it; the dismissal is remembered on this phone only.

Tapping the gear or insurance row opens the page where you fix it.

## While a trip is ahead or underway

Home is about your nearest trip that hasn't ended. The headline shows the destination, the countdown ("days until you leave", or **you're on your trip** once it starts) and the dates. Tap the pencil beside it to edit or remove the trip.

If you have another trip booked after it, a line reads "then" followed by that destination and date, plus a count when more trips follow ("+1 more"). Tap that line to edit or remove the later trip. With more than one later trip, it opens **later trips**, a list of all of them; tap one to open its sheet.

**add another trip** under the dates adds the next trip without changing this one.

If SCUBAzen has a water temperature for your destination, the facts include it (**water now**, or the typical water for that month) and what you wore on past dives that warm. Tap the reading to open [Zenfinder](/docs/zenfinder/index) at that temperature.

The checks come in two groups:

* **what the shop needs**: what a dive shop checks before it takes you diving. This covers insurance that runs out before you get home, certifications on file, own or rent answers for the essentials, and sizes for gear you're renting. A refresher note appears here too when you'll have been out of the water for a year by the day you leave. Checks that pass show as done.
* **your own kit**: your packing list progress and gear due for service. A fully packed list shows as done here. These never hold up your paperwork.

The full list of checks, and what clears each one, is on [Get ready for a trip](/docs/trips/readiness).

The foot holds **log a dive** and the paperwork button. While anything under **what the shop needs** other than the refresher is open, it reads **paperwork · not ready yet**; once every gap is closed it reads **send your paperwork**. Either way, tapping it opens the **paperwork** page, which reaches the same verdict, lists every gap and still lets you send. See [Send your paperwork](/docs/trips/paperwork).

The first time you see **what the shop needs**, a tip explains it. It goes away when you tap a row in that group or tap **dismiss**. To see tips again, go to Settings, **help & feedback**, **show tips again**.

## After a trip: the week you get back

For 7 days after a trip's return date, home is about that trip. The headline reads **welcome back** with the number of days you've been home, and the facts show how many dives you've logged from the trip next to your logbook total.

* **log a dive from the trip** sits directly under the count.
* **while you unpack** has one check box: **rinse your gear and let it dry before you store it**. It only appears if you own gear, and it goes away once ticked.
* **meanwhile** shows any standing tasks, as on the no-trip page.

The foot holds **add a trip**, for the next one. After the 7 days, home goes back to **no trip planned** unless another trip is on file.

## If home can't load

If home can't read your trips and logbook, it shows a section headed **logbook & trips** that says it couldn't load your trip and logbook and asks you to check your connection, with a **try again** button. **log a dive** stays available.

## The menu

Tap the menu button at the top left. The menu has three sections. Each row opens a page with the same name.

| Section | Row | How-to |
| - | - | - |
| **diving** | **logbook** | [Browse and search](/docs/logbook/list) |
| **diving** | **gear** | [Track your gear](/docs/gear/gear-list) |
| **diving** | **certifications & insurance** | [Your certifications and insurance](/docs/certs/wallet) |
| **planning** | **packing list** | [Packing list](/docs/trips/packing-list) |
| **planning** | **zenfinder** | [Zenfinder](/docs/zenfinder/index) |
| **planning** | **travel agent** | [Plan a trip](/docs/travel-agent/index) |
| **planning** | **paperwork** | [Send your paperwork](/docs/trips/paperwork) |
| **app** | **hand signals** | [Hand signals](/docs/help/hand-signals) |
| **app** | **settings** | [Settings](/docs/settings/index) |

When you come back to home from any of these pages, it re-reads what changed, so a task you just fixed folds away.
